I'm having *such* a difficult time getting the aqua color to be picked up. I thought maybe it was just the scanner, so I set up a photo shoot in natural light today - and STILL, no aqua green came through. ARGH.

Whats worse is that the pictures end up coming out a little muddy looking, no matter how brilliant they are in person. Ive tinkered like mad in photoshop, and can't get it to work. ::sigh::

I'm just in love with this series, they are so luminescent - and I want that to translate online too. Especially because, once they sell, I will only have my digital pictures to remind me.

I was so inspired by an Etsy front page the other day, that had just painted portraits - they were all so stunning. I then realized that I've been holding off on finishing my own self portrait... largely because I am afraid of ruining it, after having been away from it for so long.

I'm determined to change that! I want to relearn all of the good things I know, and pick up some new observations to bring to my own portrait. This portrait already reminded me of so many of my pitfalls - it was a terrific exercise that way.

So I'm putting out the call! I'd love volunteers for models. If you have a jpg of you or a family member that you're willing to let me practice with, just comment. I'd love to immortalize you. ;)

I sold my first painting!! I cannot tell you how excited I am!



This sweet little painting will be going to a good home tomorrow. I'm worried that, because its the smallest (and least expensive) painting in my Etsy store, none of the others will attract buyers. So, I bought more teeny canvases to play on.

I uploaded a few more studies (this time from my hand series) to Etsy and I plan on posting more journal entries tomorrow.

I'm back - with monoprints!

My studio/bedroom flooded a year ago, as a result of a plumber's negligence. Fortunately, after months of wrangling with their insurance company - they paid for the damage and the reconstruction costs. *whew*

So I'm back in the saddle again, and I'm warming up with several small projects before I start my larger paintings again.

Jen Worden has a weekly Art Challenge, and I joined in this week.

We were directed to make monoprints!



This was the first printing and its full of texture and rich colors.

Stamp madness

I'm just going nuts with these little birds! :) This is a teeny little canvas that I've put on Etsy. I think I'm going to do a whole series of these little guys this week until I'm just sick of them. ;)

I added two new sections to my livejournal sidebar - what art book I'm currently reading and my Inspiration of the Month. I'll be writing tomorrow about Billy Blob, who I've been a fan of for years!

I Bought Andy Warhol
by Richard Polsky

I'm almost finished reading "I Bought Andy Warhol" and I'm really enjoying it. I promised myself that, this year, I was going to really educate myself on my larger art community. I just have a difficult time reading art "textbooks" and was hoping to learn about the current scene as well as art history in a more friendly format.

This book has been just the ticket! It has a conversational tone and is rife with that sense of slipping behind the scenes to learn the real nature of art dealing in the 80s and 90s. It's funny, insightful, and I've enjoyed it a lot more than I had expected to.

I expect to finish reading this in the next week and I have "The Art of the Steal: Inside the Sotheby's-Christie's Auction House Scandal" by Christopher Mason next on my reading list.
