Studio time

So witht he reconstruction on my room, I'm giving it a whole new look. I've painted the walls a light shade of green very similar to the greens on this site! I'm just loving it, and I want to keep some continuity with all of my storage boxes.

I buy them on sale, so they are a hodge podge of colors right now. I've been getting some scrapbook papers at a discount as well, and I'm decopaging them onto the boxes for a seamless look.

It'll take a while, but I'm excited about it. After I finish the boxes, I'll work on the shelves and then some curtains and a new bedspread. Its so nice to have a room that really reflects me!

Ana

This is an oil painting that I did a few years ago. I listed it on Etsy today.

Woohoo!

I sold my first painting!! I cannot tell you how excited I am!

This sweet little painting will be going to a good home tomorrow. I'm worried that, because its the smallest (and least expensive) painting in my Etsy store, none of the others will attract buyers. So, I bought more teeny canvases to play on.

I uploaded a few more studies (this time from my hand series) to Etsy and I plan on posting more journal entries tomorrow.

Mini collage

Bird of Happiness
2.25 x 2.8 inches
Collage on matboard

I began making these funny little collages after watching the documentary about Ray Johnson, called How to Draw a Bunny. I was so inspired by his work that I had to get my own hands dirty!

Available on Etsy.

New art journal

I picked up this terrific little book from a short while ago, and I couldn't wait to start using it! I have no idea how many little pages there are in it, but I'm hoping by the end of the year to have a good chunk of it filled out.

Here's my first little offering:

I'm back - with monoprints!

My studio/bedroom flooded a year ago, as a result of a plumber's negligence. Fortunately, after months of wrangling with their insurance company - they paid for the damage and the reconstruction costs. *whew*

So I'm back in the saddle again, and I'm warming up with several small projects before I start my larger paintings again.

Jen Worden has a weekly Art Challenge, and I joined in this week.

We were directed to make monoprints!

This was the first printing and its full of texture and rich colors.

This is the second printing of the same image. I love how different the image is, while still holding the same presence!

These prints as well as two other images are available on my etsy page.

I finished it!

Excess is Dangerous
30x40 Acrylic on stretched canvas

I got it done in the nick of time for WomanMade Gallery's Anthropomorphism show. (juried by Laurie Hogin, whos work I saw at Art Chicago!) I submitted this piece and Wallflower. Keep your fingers crossed!

Here's an excerpt from my artist statement:

"The 'Essentiality Series' features representational symbolism of fundamental personality characteristics, sometimes disguised, but found within us all.

Grackles, like ants, overwhelm through sheer force of numbers and this figure represents our inability to recognize that even when driven by perfect rigor, as symbolized by the surrounding lantana, the saffron flower reminds us, excess is dangerous.
