Art journal

Another Buddha page for my journal, but I'm not as wild about this one.

We lost our dog a couple of weeks ago, to chronic renal failure. It was a sad passing, but one full of love - my family was there to witness his passing.

We've since gotten a new puppy and my days have been loaded with cute!

These wee little birds were made with acrylic paint and hand carved stamps. I had so much fun making them and I love how sweet the end results are!

Art journal

My mom is a Buddhist and I pick up a number of little gems from her. She had foot surgery last week, and isn't allowed out of bed for two weeks, so I've been spending a lot of time with her lately. This page makes me think of her. :)

Inspiration of the Month!

Michael Cutlip's work makes my insides go all dizzy when I see it. I love his use of erratic order, color and fantastic imagery.

What are your main inspirations in art?
The process is everything for me....each move inspires the next.

What is your art background? (education, experience, etc)
I have a BA in Fine Art... i have been showing professionally pretty much since i graduated.

What is your process for creating your work?
I just start putting on the paint and see where it takes me.

What is the single most important thing you want to communicate with your work?
A worthwhile visual experience.

What are your career goals?
To keep making the paintings I want to make. The day I start painting for everyone else, is the day I quit! At least the day I quit selling the work.

What one object has been the most instrumental in helping you achieve what you have so far?
An amazing teacher in college who inspired the hell out of me!

Tell me three random things about you.
1) I have beautiful wife and daughter who give me a reason to wake up each day.
2) I'm also a dog walker! My canine friends are a true inspiration!
3) I like to simply sit and watch...if you void out all of the clutter in this can be quite beautiful!

Art opening

One of my husband's colleagues is an artist and we attended the opening of the show he was in.

Sven - his website

An excerpt from his artist statement:
"I believe that abstraction is an image or concept that does not have current recognition. In my current works, I am trying to move abstraction towards recognition. Most viewers are focused on the “hard line” images that define an object, but let's say that perhaps we look at images with unfocused eyes. The image becomes a blurry object of line, shape, and color, leaving our imagination to fill in the blurry image to the point of recognition."

Thom and Sven in front of one of his favorite pieces.

Here were two of my favorite:

Study of Landscapes: Landscape II

Chicago: Lemhurst

Two other artists were represented at the show:

Brian J Sullivan

Validimir Putin

Jacob Foran

Rattling Figure

This was a really interesting piece. From what we can gather, the artist took an actual deer head, covered it with ceramic glaze, and threw it in the kiln! It was very striking.

Here's a detail shot. You can see the muscle fibers.

I really enjoyed the show, with the variety of art that inspired a wide range of conversation.
